ADA Specific work and collaborations.
Ronnette Riley Architect is dedicated to establishing itself as New York City’s trusted resource for ADA-compliant design. Our mission is simple but ambitious: to help clients create spaces that are both fully compliant and inclusive. Genuine accessibility is not treated as an afterthought or a hurdle, but as an integral part of our design.
In New York, the demand for expertise in accessibility is substantial. The city’s density, diversity of property types, and complex regulatory landscape mean that developers, property owners, and public agencies alike face challenges in compliance. For developers and property owners, new construction and renovations require careful integration of accessibility standards; architectural and engineering firms often need partners to review and reinforce their designs; real estate investment trusts look to evaluate entire portfolios for compliance strategies; and national hospitality and retail brands—such as Chipotle—rely on ADA guidance to ensure their facilities are welcoming to all. Public agencies are also sharpening their focus, with the Department of Citywide Administrative Services set to release a wide-ranging study on disability access in 2025.
Several factors continue to drive demand for ADA consulting across the city. Enforcement of accessibility regulations at both the federal and local level is steady and increasingly exacting. At the same time, demographic shifts, particularly an aging population, create mounting pressure for more accessible housing and healthcare. Property owners are also acutely aware of litigation risks. Finally, the interplay between the ADA, the NYC Building Code, and local zoning laws adds a level of complexity that few owners or developers are prepared to tackle without specialized guidance.
RRA’s consulting services are designed to address these pressures with practical architectural solutions. We conduct detailed accessibility audits that assess existing facilities and pinpoint compliance gaps. We consult closely with design teams at the outset of projects, ensuring accessibility is woven seamlessly into plans and specifications. And we provide code compliance reviews. These balance federal ADA standards with New York City’s specific building code requirements. And when disputes or lawsuits arise, we assist clients and their counsel with the technical expertise needed to resolve them, including serving as expert witnesses.
Our work is rooted in the belief that inclusive environments serve everyone and add long-term value for clients. By pairing deep knowledge of regulations with a pragmatic design sensibility, RRA helps New York City move steadily toward a future where accessibility is the norm rather than the exception.
