Ronnette Riley Architects has been honored with a 2019 SARA National Design Award for their design of EMS Station 39 in Brooklyn for the Fire Department of New York. This comprehensive gut renovation required stripping the building down to its rear wall and completely rebuilding the structure to accommodate ten basic life support and advanced life support ambulances daily and a staff of more than 75 emergency medical technicians, paramedics and officers. The station has several environmentally conscious features, including the FDNY's first green roof, Solatube lighting in place of standard light fixtures that provide 100% of the station’s lighting during the day, solar panels on the roof and radiant floor heating in the ambulance/fly car vehicle area.
